Veterans Day is a celebration to honor veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Veterans Day is always on November 11 regardless what day it falls on.
This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans are thanked for their services to the United States on Veterans Day.
It is important to show honor on veterans day because it shows respect to those that went to war to protect us. We didn't go to war and see such horrible things, they did. Those men and women fought for our freedom, they risked their life for us.
Here are some ways you can show respect and honor:
  1. Visit a veteran at a hospital and tell them thank you
  2. Volunteer with an organization, such as Canine Companions for Independence, that provide therapy dogs to veterans.
  3. Donate to your veterans
  4. Write them letters
  5. Attend to parades
I think this is a very special day. But we shouldn't just honor our veterans on November 11th, we should honor and support them everyday. These men and women have families of their own and they are risking their lives out there just for us, just for our freedom. These people deserve the best for doing so but sadly they don't receive the best. After they get back most get treated like they are nothing. I was reading the article US military veterans face inadequate care after returning from war – report  and it states that “Almost half of the 2.2 million troops deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan report difficulties on their return home, but many receive inadequate care from the US…” Do you think this is fair? Because i certainly dont. The sad part is that i can't really do anything about it because i'm underage but if you're reading this right now, help them. They have done so much for you and me and the whole US but the they doesn't treat them like they should be treated.
